Why Getting Started With NLP Today Means Greater Success Tomorrow

Why is getting started with NLP as soon as possible so important?  Because with NLP skills in your back pocket, you catapult yourself toward  a very high return on your investment.

And that results in a successful and long term coaching career.

The value of traditional coaching is obvious. Its continued popularity is proof enough. However, often times coaches report feeling they can’t go quite as far in helping their clients as they’d like.

One of my students who was already a traditionally trained coach, recently shared that her client wanted to experience warmth. But she confided to me that she didn’t think writing this on a piece of paper and putting it on the wall would do much to achieve the goal. Nor would affirmations, or creating a strategy to find it.  So this experience revealed a gap in her professional training.

And that triggered her getting started with NLP training.  When the power and perspectives of Neuro-Linguistic Programming enter the scene, you can count on more easily and quickly being free to save the day.

Getting Clear On What You Know & Don’t Know

As a traditionally trained coach, you become very skilled in the art of asking questions.  This is essential in several ways.  Questions empower you to do 3 very important things:

      • Separate inquiry from giving advice
      • Discover the client’s goal or outcome
      • Uncover the strategies required to reach the goal

These are important and must be addressed for success.  However, more is often needed to actually move the client toward the desired goal.

I’m sad to say that intellectual clarity does not automatically breed behavioral change.  As a result, you can be crystal clear about what you want AND how to get it;  yet remain unable to actually reach your goal.

Knowing what you need to do, and being able to do it, are two distinct phases of reaching any desired outcome.

Only rarely is this situation the result of laziness or a lack of commitment.  More often than not, it is due to an objection or concern about actually reaching the desired outcome.  And for long term success as a coach, you must know how to identify these objections and how to address them.

NLP Loves Objections: They Are The
Gateway To Transformation

Objections become a problem for the coach when they are approached incorrectly.   So it is imperative that you can recognize these four components:

        1. There is an objection
        2. What the objection is
        3. How to find it
        4. How to successfully answer the objection so it’s no longer an issue

Getting started with NLP skills allows you to address objections easily and quickly.

Many coaches have an adverse reaction to objections. Continue reading

In some way or another, the great minds of the past have consistently given us the same direction for happiness & mental emotional health:

“Know Thyself”

Well, as you most certainly know, that is not as easy to accomplish as it sounds!

The personality IS the primary culprit blocking access
to the guidance this wisdom offers.

So, it makes sense to know more about the personality in order to be aware of the specific roadblocks both you and your clients will encounter and need to break through.

The Enneagram test will allow you to do just that.

NLP, Your Biology, And Spiritual Healing

your brain will light up when you understand the connection between NLP, your biology, and spiritual healingIn this second installment, let’s take a look at NLP, your biology, and spiritual healing.

In my previous post What Could NLP Possibly Have To Do With Spirituality, we took a look at how NLP can support the quest for living a more spiritually oriented life.

The article noted that NLP is known for it’s use of language to help bridge the gap between a client’s desired state and their current state. And it does this by tapping into the brain’s power to create new neural pathways.

In this case, the client wants help in bridging the gap between being both a human being and a spiritual being.

What You Should Know About Biology &
The Power Of Your Cells

We all have a mind and a body.

So let’s check out the body’s influence on our desire to evolve and live into a more spiritually informed life. I’m talking here about folks who want more mindfulness, presence, and awareness integrated into their daily activities.

To help us better understand why this is so difficult, let me reference Dr. Bruce Lipton, the creator of The Biology of Perception videos.

In his YouTube videos, Dr. Lipton states that the cells in your body are programmed to do only twoThe world blossoms when you understand the connection between NLP, your biology, and spiritual healing things: either grow or protect.

The cell can be in growth mode. That means moving toward positive signals or nutrients.

OR, the cell can be in protection mode. That means moving away from negative signals or toxins.

It seems the whole physical system is set up on an either/or basis.  It operates like an on/off switch. It’s not like a dimmer mechanism that flows between on and off.

Unfortunately, ‘flow’  is what folks into meditation, mindfulness, contemplation and living a spiritually infused life are actually asking for.

They want to seamlessly flow between the tasks and responsibilities of being human AND the joys of being divine love and compassion.

BUT … the more protection the cell determines it needs, the less growth it can make. No matter what’s going on, for the cells, it’s all about survival first.

The Desire To Stay Safe
vs. The Desire To Risk Beyond The Known

Dr. Lipton says that ‘perception rewrites genes’. If he’s correct, how you perceive things can affect your biology, brain, and behavior.  Wow!  That is a very amazing thing to consider.

Remember the three sets of conflicting guidelines identified in the last post? And how we almost always find ourselves struggling over which guideline to follow?

I’ll share them again so they’re fresh in your mind.

Human Self:    Keep moving & go after what you want.
Divine Self:     Stay still & be grateful for what is.

Human Self:   Focus on the future & expect to get what you want
Divine Self:     Focus on the present & let things be as they are.

Human Self:   Heal your wounds from the past.
Divine Self:     You are perfect as you are.

We struggle with these because we view them as contradictory and incompatible.animation of confused person trying to make a decision

As we struggle to make a choice, it feels like a real battle in our body – stressful, frustrating, and confusing.  Which will win our energy and commitment?

Perceiving these guidelines with mindfulness and presence would be approaching them as complementary.

Remember the cells? When they’re healthy, they can stay balanced, growing when needed, and protecting when needed. No fight.  Just responding to the call of the moment.

You can transform your perception of these contradictory guidelines to actually being complementary to each other.  You can learn to perceive them as a working partnership which in fact they actually are.

Embracing this understanding can free you to create a new neural pathway in the brain. And you can embrace them most easily with the support of language & imagination.

And these are the cornerstones of the NLP model for accelerated behavioral change.

Not Sure Brain Cells Can Grow New Neural Networks?

Here’s the link to a 42 second YouTube video showing a time lapse of a neural network growing over 170 hours. CLICK BELOW TO WATCH

So what can trigger the creation of a new neural pathway?  How can combining NLP, your biology & spiritual healing cause this happen?

Transforming the new idea into language & then into imagination.

Of course, the new perception has to be strong enough to actually stimulate the brain into action. That can take a long time.  However, NLP can help you speed up the process. It is truly  worth checking out.

Are Client’s Limitations The Problem? Or That They Believe They’re True?

We human beings are funny creatures.  Just because something arises in our mind – be it a thought or a feeling – we tend to assume it is telling us the truth.

So we accept our thought or emotion as accurate  which closes the door to perusing other possible interpretations to the experience.

This automatic assumption of accuracy leads us to believe the thought or feeling is the truth … and then we act accordingly, displaying behaviors from love and compassion to hate and violence.

People rarely take the time to make a distinction between a thought or feeling being accurate  vs. being valid.  Yet this little moment of inquiry can save oodles of time, drama, and suffering.

file0002125234983Accuracy implies a final truth.  No matter how I look at it, the answer is always the same.  There’s no variation and nothing else could change the fact of it.

Validity implies that if I stood in your shoes, I could also feel or think the same thing because that’s how things actually look from that point of view.

When you can see things from multiple points of view, you can see for yourself that each viewpoint is indeed valid, but not accurate, or a final truth.

You discover all viewpoints are also incomplete. They lack the whole picture that truth requires by virtue of the fact that viewpoints only reflect the single view that naturally arises from the point where you’re standing.

Change where you’re standing, and your view changes automatically.

This is a powerful understanding to keep in mind, not only for your clients, but also for yourself.

Whether it’s overt or covert, helping your clients expand their perceptual flexibility (freedom to peruse multiple viewpoints) can speed up their ability to release limiting beliefs. This skill will move them forward more efficiently in their exploration of how to better live their lives.

What Can You Do?

Want To Be A Healer? But … Is It Really Possible To Heal Another?

The best answer I’ve ever found to this question is the word ‘Po’, coined by Edward DeBono, a modern non-Aristotelian logician.

‘Po’ means neither yes nor no. It means you are neither for nor against either possibility. It means moving beyond the no of logic (that leads you to the right answer), and the yes of belief systems (that make you feel you have the right answer).

‘Po’ positions you in the space surrounding either yes or no as the right answer.

‘Po’ deposits you at the home address of true creativity; that point of power where two opposites meet and merge into a new whole, a new insight, or a new guideline.

What Does This Have To Do With Healing?

Well, here’s the thing. The safest position to take on this question is ‘Po’. Let’s take a look at why I say this.

On the one hand, it sure looks like healers heal others when healing is defined as taking away painbutterfly-on-leaves-in-sun and suffering. If it’s physical pain, the release can be accomplished many ways: an aspirin, acupuncture, surgery, repairing broken links between organs, systems and the brain, and many more.

If it’s emotional pain, reducing that emotional challenge is definitely do-able with the newest Energy Psychology techniques such as Callahan Tapping, EFT, TFT, TAT and many others. You can rearrange the configuration of images, sound, and feeling that create the emotion via techniques from NLP or hypnosis in deep or waking trance. And of course, there’s the age old technique of  simply giving someone a hug or just reaching out and gently taking their hand.

If it’s mental pain, releasing fixed points of view that hamper perceptual flexibility can be accomplished by challenging presuppositions, introducing new models of meaning and purpose, or a simple re-education of how things actually work, like relationships or the fact that consequences are the other side of the coin of accountability.

So clearly healers can release pain in a variety of ways. Yet, here’s where a much more important question emerges; a question far more important for you as the healer than for the one being healed.

Who Is Doing The Healing?

Got A Great Model For Mental Health & Emotional Well-Being?

Ever wish you knew just a little bit more than you do?  Heard someone talking about something and had to pretend you were up on it?  Wished you had the time and energy to take on learning something new?  Felt a little like you’d fallen behind and might not ever catch up with the newest in your field?

If so, our Blog is for you.

The personal growth industry has become quite prolific in its offering of multiple ways to arrive at good mental health and emotional well-being.  There is so much, you can easily feel left behind and a bit confused about what might be best to explore. So how do you decide which offering is the most valuable?

The thing is – every model has something of value to offer – especially if you’re a coach, counselor, therapist, or hypnotherapist. The more models within your grasp, the greater probability you will have something that fits your client.

This is truly important, for it frees you from making the most common, and often the most hurtful, mistake of our profession: trying to fit your client into the one or two models you’ve chosen to learn – rather than finding the one that fits your client best.  And this can happen whether you’re just starting out, or the consummate, seasoned professional.

Our desire at To Help You Help Others is to expand your awareness of all the models in today’s marketplace for both mental health and emotional well-being.  We’ll show you how learning new ways of approaching old problems will not only refresh a possibly waning interest, but increase your success rate and the frequency of seeing your client’s eyes light up with delight and wonder at how they’ve reached their goal.

Here are just a few examples of things there is to learn:  Know How To:pic-context-content-user-660x450
